Barracuda Web Filter Vx™ is a virtual appliance that provides best-of-breed Web filtering and antimalware protection from within leading virtual environments. Available in editions affordable for businesses of all sizes, Barracuda Web Filter Vx provides visibility into Web activity that lets administrators create effective Web policies. Using Barracuda Web Filter Vx ensures networks maintain peak performance while enforcing that users act online in accord with objectives.

Technology

Barracuda Web Filter Vx protects network gateways against spyware, viruses, and adware using definitions that Barracuda Central, our 24X7 security operations center, updates in real time. This powerful virtual appliance blocks “drive-by” installs, downloads and all installations from known spyware websites.

Along with effective malware protection, Barracuda Web Filter Vx also provides comprehensive, highly flexible Web filtering options. Administrators can apply access options that include blocking access, giving warnings, monitoring or allowing access. Administrators can apply these access options to six super categories covering 95 predefined subcategories of content and media. Administrators can also create custom categories for filtering if desired.

With all this flexibility, Barracuda Web Filter Vx also lets administrators set up custom policies for individual users and groups across customizable time ranges. Barracuda Web Filter Vx integrates with LDAP directory servers such Active Directory for authentication and group membership to apply custom policies.

Monitoring and Reporting

Administrators can view logs and generate preformatted reports for complete visibility within the organization about user activity, domain activity, category activity, infected clients and many other aspects of usage and attacks. Reports can easily be customized and scheduled for automatic delivery.

Remote Security and Filtering

Besides protecting users on the network, the Barracuda Web Filter Vx provides downloadable agent software that can be installed on off-network Windows and Mac computers. With the agent installed, Web traffic from remote client computers is transparently filtered through the Barracuda Web Filter Vx virtual appliance to ensure consistent antimalware protection and policy enforcement to all users on and off the network.

Easy to Use

Barracuda Web Filter Vx virtual appliances are supported on most popular hypervisors like VMware ESX, VMware ESXi, VMware Server, Citrix XenServer and Microsoft Hyper-V. The entire virtual appliance, including hardware configuration, operating system and application modules is encapsulated for easy deployment. After the virtual appliance has been installed, configuration and administration is performed through an intuitive Web-based user interface. As a virtual appliance with automatic system updates from Barracuda Central, Barracuda Web Filter Vx is virtually maintenance-free.

Web traffic can be routed to the virtual appliance by specifying proxy settings on client Web browsers (Forward Proxy) or by installing the Barracuda Web Security Agent for transparent forwarding.

Affordable

With no per-user license fees, the Barracuda Web Filter Vx virtual appliance provides the same flexibility and affordability as the Barracuda Web Filter hardware appliance with the added convenience and advantages of a VM.

Editions

Barracuda Web Filter Vx is available in four editions with included support for up to four CPU cores. Administrators can cluster multiple virtual appliances and load balance them for increased capacity and high availability. Also, the capacity and performance of the Barracuda Web Filter Vx edition BYF 610Vx can be easily expanded by licensing it to run on additional CPU cores on the virtual host cluster.
